Tax Preparation for Orlando Real Estate Agents
You close the deal; we handle the paperwork. Careful tax preparation for Realtors: mileage records, listing expenses, and commission income reported correctly.
Commission Income Comes With Real Expenses. Let's Document Them.
Real estate is a high-expense business. Between lead gen, professional photography, and thousands of miles on Central Florida roads, your "gross commission" isn't what you take home.
At GTQ Tax, we focus on careful, documented preparation. We review the deductions in your brokerage statements and plan your estimated payments so commission season doesn't turn into a tax surprise.

The "Listing & Lead" Audit
Professional photography, staging, Zillow leads, and lockbox fees add up. We ensure every dollar spent marketing your listings is captured as a high-value deduction.
Mileage Documentation
From showing homes in Lake Nona to closings in Winter Park, you live in your car. We review your mileage log and toll records so your deduction is documented and supported.
Self-Employment Tax Planning
Commission income is generally subject to self-employment tax. We plan your quarterly estimates and, for agents with higher net income, explain the tradeoffs of an S-Corp election — including the reasonable salary requirement and added costs — and coordinate with your attorney or CPA if you pursue one.

Real Estate Agent FAQ
Expert answers for independent Realtors.
Can I deduct my desk fees and brokerage splits?
Fees paid to your brokerage, including desk fees, technology fees, and transaction splits, are generally deductible business expenses on your Schedule C when they are ordinary business costs.
How do I handle referral fees paid to other agents?
If you pay a referral fee to an individual agent that meets the 1099-NEC reporting threshold ($600 for payments made through 2025; $2,000 for payments made in 2026), you are responsible for issuing a 1099-NEC. We help our Realtor clients manage these filings so their deductions are properly documented.
Is my SunPass deductible when showing homes?
Tolls paid while driving for business, such as meeting clients via the 408 and 417, may be deductible. Use your monthly statement to document the business trips behind each charge.
Should I put my car in my business name?
This depends on your specific usage and the value of the vehicle. We run a comparison between the standard mileage rate and actual expenses (including depreciation) to see which provides the larger tax benefit.
